Print Bio

Darrell is the senior member of the leasing component of the Commercial Real Estate and Development Group and has extensive experience and expertise in commercial, retail, office and industrial leasing, lease enforcement, and dispute resolution, representing landlords, tenants and property managers. Darrell's practice also includes acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate and general commercial contracts.

Darrell has earned a strong reputation for his attention to detail and practical advice in his work for clients. He strongly believes that a successful legal advisor lawyer must always “know each client” by understanding the business, the market in which the client operates, the business objectives of each client, and which party has the leverage in any deal, in order to provide valued legal advice tailored to each client.

Darrell’s ability to explain common but often complex and misunderstood leasing concepts is an important aid to his clients in understanding their rights and obligations under their lease.

As part of his practice, Darrell is active in writing articles on commercial leasing and other commercial real estate matters for various publications including “The Legal Corner”, a very popular column in the RENX Property Biz Canada on-line newsletter. Darrell has also authored chapters in leading leasing publications including: Shopping Centre Leases – 2nd Edition, The Commercial Lease, The Repair and Storage Lien Act: A Practical Guide, and The Commercial Lease - 5th edition.  He has frequently contributed as a presenter and panelist at leasing and leasing-related conferences including: The 6 Minute Leasing Lawyer – Law Society of Ontario, Real Leasing, ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Law Conference, Gems of Commercial Leasing, and more.

Darrell has been actively involved in the community and has served on the Board of Directors of a number of charitable institutions including The Village Shul and Learning Centre of Toronto, and Netivot HaTorah Day School. Darrell has also chaired event and fundraising committees including Kayla's Children Centre (a school and treatment centre for children with a wide variety of physical and developmental disabilities) and the 2008 Netivot Annual Golf Tournament.

Outside of the office, Darrell enjoys collecting and using vintage audio equipment from the 70’s, light hiking on Ontario trails, collecting Jewish holiday postcards from the early 1900s and travelling with his wife and 3 children.
