Darrell is responsible for the leasing component of the Real Estate Group.
Darrell has extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of commercial, retail, office and industrial leasing, lease enforcement and dispute resolution on behalf of landlords, tenants, and property and asset managers. As well, his practice includes acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate and general commercial contracts.
Darrell's clients include closely-held and public corporations, financial institutions, asset managers, and property managers. They depend on him for his expertise and practical and cost-effective advice for their leasing and lease related matters.
From the "simple" lease of retail space in a shopping centre to the management and co-ordination of large and complex lease-related projects, Darrell's clients rely on him to help them achieve their objectives in a cost-effective and timely manner. Darrell is the author of a bi-weekly column, “The Legal Corner” in the online newsletter RENX Property Biz Canada. He has authored chapters in leading leasing publications including Shopping Centre Leases – 2nd Edition, The Commercial Lease, The Repair and Storage Lien Act: A Practical Guide and the 5th edition of The Commercial Lease, published in 2013: and Tenant's Rights and Remedies in a Commercial Lease - A Practical Guide ( 2nd Edition) to be published in 2014.
An articulate and confident speaker, Darrell is frequently sought out by his peers to contribute as a presenter and panelist at leasing and leasing-related conferences including the International Council of Shopping Centers, The 6 Minute Leasing Lawyer, RealLeasing, ICSC Roundtable, Gems of Commercial Leasing and more.
Darrell is actively involved in the community and has served on the Board of Directors of The Village Shul and Learning Centre of Toronto, the Board of Directors of Netivot HaTorah Day School and related committees including Zareinu Educational Centre, a day school and treatment centre for children with a wide variety of physical and developmental disabilities. Darrell also co-chaired the fundraising committee for the 2008 Annual Netivot HaTorah Golf Tournament.
