In Memory of Gerry Taub
Gerry Taub, Head of the Real Estate Group at Robins Appleby LLP from the early 1980s until the early 2000s, passed away peacefully last week at the age of 83. He was an amazing lawyer who handled only the most creative and challenging of legal structures. Whenever someone said it couldn’t be done, Gerry found a way to structure a deal that would work. He represented many entrepreneurial and institutional clients over the years including many members of the Ishmael community, Peter Pocklington, BMO, Sun Life and a host of both developers and lenders.
When I started with Gerry in 1985, there were only 3 lawyers in our group. Over the years, the firm went through an evolution. Gerry and I were a part of the group that rebuilt our real estate group into the significant player in the legal development and lending fields in the GTA.
Gerry had a way of analyzing and structuring transactions which made the most complex transactions gel together and work for all parties. He was a great leader, a wonderful family man and leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Shirley Taub, 2 sons, Ian and David (David is a partner in our Litigation Group) and many adoring grandchildren.
Gerry has left a tremendous legacy in the Real Estate Group at Robins Appleby LLP and amongst his family and friends. We will miss you Gerry.
