Clients come to Bradley Gould at pivotal points in the lifecycle of their business: when they are buying a company, selling one they have spent years building, considering new ways to grow their business or structuring a new venture. He helps them see the risk in front of them and what it takes to turn their ideas into reality.

Brad practises in mergers and acquisitions and secured lending, along with having expertise in shareholder, partnership, joint venture, and general business agreements that govern businesses and how they operate. Much of the work is transactional: taking a business deal the client has already struck and making it a legal reality. He works across sectors, from manufacturing and tech to professional services and everything in between, drawing on his professional network and the knowledge within the firm when a deal requires expertise in a niche area like tax.

His clients are owner-operators of mid-to-large businesses at all stages of their life, and the lending institutions on the other side of a financing. They are not just financially invested in their businesses but emotionally invested, and Brad respects both, recognizing what is at stake and protecting what they have built.

In one matter that captures how he works, Brad and his team acted for a client buying a business, supported the client’s business through the years that followed, and then handled the sale when she was ready to exit. He was there for the full lifespan of the business, from purchase to operation to exit, not just a single transaction.

Brad is skilled at assessing and allocating risk for his clients. Clients arrive wanting to buy, sell, and sign on the dotted line. Brad ensures that they are asking and answering the real questions: what can go wrong and how he can help guard against it. Lawyers can be risk-averse, but business owners take risks every day to grow. Brad works in the space between the two, setting out the worst case plainly so a client can decide with their eyes open, then shaping a deal that works for them. He is fair, direct, and focused on bringing the client the best possible result, and he gives the same care to every file, whether a client is financing early-stage growth or planning a multi-million-dollar exit.

He explains things simply and without ego, which is why clients and referral sources trust him with their businesses. As a result of his approach Brad is building a name as a dealmaker and deepening his relationships with institutional, new and repeat clients alike.

Outside the firm, Brad spends time with family and friends, golfs when he can, and follows Toronto's sports teams closely.
