Port Lands Compromise Reached

Share

Overview

In a decision reached last Wednesday, September 21, 2011, Toronto City Council reached a compromise to allow Waterfront Toronto to continue with its current proposal plan for the Lower Don Lands.  The compromise included a larger role for both the City and TPLC to ensure that the Port Lands development is moved forward in an expeditious and economic fashion.  TPLC will be providing further review and input on both the Lower Don Lands and Don Mouth Naturalization EA economic analysis and into the Port Lands business and implementation plan, with a view to tabling its support and proposals in early January 2012.   Although many in the media and Council view this as a defeat for the Ford administration, the decision represents a clear move to accelerate the Port Lands development and ensure that the City and its agencies have a much more direct involvement in the decision making as the process moves forward.
